Diamond Consultation
A consultation is a condensed report on a diamond. In this case only the carat weight,
colour grade, clarity grade and a plotting diagram is recorded.
- The pricing of polished diamonds is primarily a function of weight, colour and clarity
with allowance made for the make and finish. In the trade factories, dealers and jewellers
make use of the information on a consultation to set the buying and selling price of the
diamond. They do not really need a full report in the form of a certificate because they
have the knowledge to differentiate between a well and poorly proportioned or polished
diamond.
